History of the BMS (Bhartiya Meena Samaj) Society
Historically, the Meenas were among the earliest inhabitants of Rajasthan, predating many other communities in the region. The Meena claim to be descendants of the Matsya Kingdom, which flourished in the 6th century B.C. They also claim to be descended from the Matsya avatar, or fish incarnation, of Vishnu.
Before the 10th century, the area known as Dhundhar, which includes present-day Jaipur and surrounding districts, was ruled by Meena chiefs. These chiefs governed small territories independently until the rise of the Kachwaha Rajputs, who established their rule in the region around the 10th century.
